The US Backgammon Federation (USBGF) is the internationally recognized organization promoting backgammon in the United States. There are similar organizations in other parts of the world.
From the official How the USBGF Works page:
“The mission of the USBGF is to grow backgammon. As a not-for-profit organization, we invest in services that enhance the backgammon community and draw new players.”
The three main pillars of what they do to support their mission are
- Awareness
Expanding promotion of the game and spreading awareness of it as both a social pastime and a competitive mind sport. - Education
Developing educational content, lessons, and video streams from top experts to help players improve their skills. Prime Time Magazine alone is worth the cost of your membership, and there is so much more! - Play Experiences
Leading a passionate community, organizing standardized tournaments (like the ABT and ABT Online!), and ensuring fairness and integrity through defined rule sets and anti-cheating safeguards.
As a local member club, we benefit from all three of these initiatives. The USBGF has helped promote Steel City backgammon from the first day we revived the club. Visit our USBGF “Home Page”.
We routinely send new and developing players to the USBGF’s educational resources.
And we will be participating for the first time this year in the USBGF’s National Club Championship.
In short, Steel City Backgammon is proud to be a member club of the national organization, and we encourage all of our players to head over to the USBGF Membership page and become members. You will be supporting backgammon nationwide and you can take advantage of all they have to offer.
While it is not required to be a USBGF member to play in our events, it is required if you want to play in the national ABT events (next up, Chicago Open!) or the National Club Championship.
