Saturday the 18th: Learning day!
If you want to improve your game, come out and try something new!
At the Michigan tournament, Ed Corey from the USBGF told me about something they do regularly at his club in Connecticut - social doubles! It’s 100% free and fun. We’ll pair up more experienced players with newer players or ones who want to improve their games. We’ll play something simple like a 3-point match, two-on-two, and comment on ALL our moves and cube decisions. Total collaboration on both sides of the board. It should be really fun and you get to peek inside the brain of an advanced player. No entry fee, no stake. Just learning.
If you identify as either type of player, or just want to try it, come out next Saturday.
Every year, the USGBF runs an online tournament for local clubs. Each club chooses a representative to compete. The matches are 13 points, and are played on Backgammon Studio Heroes. More about the club championship here if you are interested.
Steel City’s entry into this online tournament is our club director Peter Swartwout. 👇

His first event will be played on Tues, July 21, at 7pm EDT. Peter’s opponent will be Jeb Horton, a world-class player and director of the Charlotte Backgammon Club. 👇

If you want to watch the match in real time, you can go to Heroes at the link above, (create an account if you don’t have one already) then on the upper left choose Tournament Rooms …

Scroll down to USBGF Club Championship …

Then choose Show matches …

Then when the match appears, click Observe. You will be directed to Observer Chat, which means you can chat with your fellow observers but the players will not see your comments.
Good luck Peter!
